Quick Boss Guide: Duriel
Preparation
Reminders
Don't be afraid to die! If the whole party dies, all will respawn right outside the room and once a member re-enters, the fight restarts. If one member enters early, the 'Join Fight' wall will appear.
If you don't have a full party and you're having trouble, don't hesitate to reach out to the world via things such as Trade Chat where members are always willing to help!
Overall, this fight becomes increasingly easier with practice and by identifying Duriel's abilities and reducing the exponential damage debuff stacks. There is no one-size-fits-all rule here, but generally 5+ stacks can become troublesome to survive.
Summon: After a short period where the ground trembles, Duriel's Pangs will appear in the 2 SOUTHERNMOST holes.
Pangs will spew poison projectiles in a ~180 degree spread.
After they're dead, move north to where Duriel will crawl out of the NORTHERN hole.
Duriel will target a player and charge forward, crowd controlling any target in the path.
After the charge animation, Duriel will target nearby player and charge up a powerful melee attack which knocks back.
Barbarians can use abilities such as
Duriel will target and follow a player briefly, holding up its arms and its stomach will appear to be 'opening' or bulging.
After targetting and tracking the player, PROJECTILES FIRE from the stomach that spreads ~180 degrees, these 'balls' are spaced out 10-20 degrees.
To the left, you can see how Duriel targets and tracks and then right when Duriel begins to 'shoot', you can evade behind to dodge it. BONUS: you can see that due to how Duriel was positioned, ALL projectiles from the frontal went into the wall.
Alternatively, there are numerous other locations where Duriel will commonly end up in following a charge where Duriel is "in the wall", if the melee player is positioned parallel with the wall and Duriel's model is conveniently behind some 'wall', it will work as shown.
FRONTAL (PROJECTILES) GIVES A STACK
Duriel will target a nearby player, charging up one of its arms high into the air before slamming down.
Once Duriel slams its arm down, a POISON AOE appears at the target location that should be evaded.
The melee attack is NOT what gives a stack, the POISON AOE does.
POISON AOE GIVES A STACK
Duriel becomes untargetable and invulnerable and will begin to 'dig' or burrow into the ground.
After a short period, a Pang will appear out of one of the holes (random) and likewise for Duriel.
